Looking Toward The Future

My Steampunk Workshop at the Big Bear Lake Library

Good afternoon! I finished my presentation at the Big Bear Lake Library yesterday and it went really well. The turnout was pretty good and it seemed like everyone was really interested in the topic. Thankfully, the attendees didn't appear to be bored with my presentation. I always use PowerPoint slides for my workshops and it's tricky to make discussions interesting for an audience. The workshop included the basic characteristics of steampunk, where it came from, and how it changed over time. I also talked about steampunk as literature, a subculture, and media. Most likely, you'rv seen steampunk without knowing it. I also mentioned my book series titled The Post-Apocalyptic Society and how it's a little different from most steampunk tales. The employees and Friends of the Library made an awesome poster for marketing material. They did a really good job.

I want to give a special thanks to everyone who helped me with this event. The library's staff was tremendously helpful and friendly. They're wonderful people and super organized. I can tell they have a lot of events. Their library is small, but really nice. The library had a great selection of books and movies. My sister bought quite a few books from them for a mere six dollars. The Friends of the Library group was great and they took a lot of interest in my workshop. That's actually how I obtained this event in the first place. I met someone who's affiliated with the Big Bear Lake library at another event and she thought a steampunk presentation would be a good idea. That's why it's important for authors to meet new people. You never know when an opportunity will arise. I'm also glad my sister was also able to help me. It takes more than one person to set up everything. She was also more comfortable driving up the mountain. I've never been to Big Bear in the past, but it definitely seems like a tranquil and scenic place. Maybe we can take a family trip up the mountain one of these days. I'm sure it will be very relaxing and fun.
