Earlier today, I saw the new Independence Day film and it seemed like a good idea to write a review. If you're not sure about seeing this movie, read my review and it should help you come to a decision.

I have positive and negative things to say about Resurgence. Let's start with the good parts. This movie has a lot of entertainment value. I think it's a lot more fun than the original Independence Day film. There is plenty of science fiction action with apocalyptic chaos, futuristic jet fighters, aliens, ray guns, and much more.

It brings back the original cast except for Will Smith, which might be nostalgic for fans of the first Independence Day movie. There was a twenty year gap between Resurgence and the first film, so it's exciting to see how this movie pans out. It definitely caters to a newer generation of viewers. They'll appreciate the actions scenes and video games elements. Resurgence has a lot of good special effects and a strong futuristic component.

Here's the rub. Fans of the original film might hate a lot of elements in Resurgence. I wasn't kidding about video game elements. It has a lot space ships flying around, people and aliens alike are shooting at each other, etc. I think some fans of the first Independence Day film will also believe the sequel is too much like an action flick. The apocalyptic elements in this film are toned down to have a bigger emphasis on action scenes and futuristic science fiction components. In some ways, it reminded me of the Alien franchise with Sigourney Weaver.

This next part might sound like a spoiler, but the theatrical trailer gives it away. The aliens blew everything up in the first movie. Now they're using a gravitational field that can scoop up entire buildings, highways, and oceans. What happens? They drop it on a bunch of people. What a way to exit this world! I have a feeling some people will dislike that part. It does have one big similarity with the first movie. There's a much bigger emphasis on action and visual effects instead of plotline.

I actually enjoyed this film. Who should see it? I would recommend Resurgence to anyone who likes action films, aliens, video games, and fast paced science fiction movies. Believe it or not, this movie isn't bad for kids. Children who are eight, nine, or ten years old might think it's a fun movie. However, it has a PG-13 rating and you might want to keep that part in consideration too. I appreciated the entertainment value, but maybe you guys already have some things to say about this film. Leave a comment if you have anything to say and enjoy your time at the movies!
