Okay, I promised to give you guys some reviews about various topics. Here's my first one! I saw Captain America: Civil War this weekend and it was amazing! This film should satisfy die hard superhero and action film enthusiasts. In this review, I'm going to cover Civil War's strengths and weaknesses. Overall, the film has a great balance of action, character interaction, conflicts, and a decent storyline. It has a unique plot that focuses on major conflicts between the various superheroes. Usually, comic book movies focus a conflict with a primary antagonist, but this one focuses on the heroes and their sense of right vs. wrong. So, which team has the more righteous cause? Is it team Captain America or team Iron Man? Truthfully, it's up to the viewer. However, the film tries to sway people's thoughts toward Captain America. After all, it's his movie. If you want to see stuff blow up every ten minutes, this isn't the right film for you. With that said, the action scenes are fantastic. They're packed with numerous characters pitted against each other and you get to see all of our heroes using their powers. By the way, Black Panther and Spider-Man were excellent additions to excitement. Despite the feud, it's not a particularly dark or gloomy film. The action scenes actually have some humor. Don't feel intimidated by the number of characters. It's not overwhelming or confusing and many of the characters have a chance to shine. Even though the movie is great, I have a little bit of criticism. Civil War has a definitive villain and that's one of the weak points. Baron Zemo is the main antagonist and he's not very memorable. He's not a member of Hydra, doesn't wear his signature mask, not a mad scientist, and not an expert sword fighter like his comic book counterpart. That's unfortunate because I thought the comic version of Zemo was a very solid villain. The movie also wants the viewer to think both teams of superheroes are equally matched. Realistically, Iron Man's group should easily stomp all over Captain America's team, except for Scarlet Witch. She's the big gun on Captain America's side. I don't think Captain America's group would be able to defeat Vision, Spider-Man, or the two Iron Man suits. However, this is cinema and they need to make sure all of our heroes have an equal chance to win. This is not a predictable film. The plot varies a lot from the comic version of Civil War and I consider that a good thing. I wasn't a big fan of the Civil War comic line. Well, I enjoyed this movie, but it's still not my favorite Marvel film. I still believe The Winter Soldier was the best of Captain America's solo installments. In conclusion, I definitely recommend this film for adults and kids alike. It's a lot of fun and very interesting. Leave a comment if you have anything to say about this review. I'm curious to see what the Marvel fans would say. Enjoy your night at the movies!
