We're almost done with 2018! I want this post to give you an idea about next year's blogging experience. You're going to see many familiar elements and some new things as well. First, I want to thank all of my fans, supporters, and viewers for taking an interest in my work. Every author and blogger needs an audience, which means your support is very important to me. You're still going to see weekly posts in 2019 and it should be a fun experience. I'm going to break down some specific announcements and thoughts for you.
As a steampunk author, many of my posts focus on steampunk and similar genres. This is still going to be true next year. I'm still going to write posts about steampunk topics that seem interesting to me. Also, I'm going to continue interviewing people in the steampunk community. There are many steampunk makers who have terrific ideas and creations. I believe their work deserves attention and you might enjoy learning about these individuals. In the past, I wrote several posts about writing steampunk fiction. Most likely, I'll conclude that series of posts with a couple more topics. My suggestions for writing steampunk fiction are starting to run out because I already posted multiple topics. I would like to have some Q&A sessions with other steampunk makers to get their perspectives on various things. For example, I wrote a post about steampunk horror. I'm not an expert on the topic, so most of the post was a Q&A session with an author of steampunk horror and dreadpunk. Actually, I learned a lot of information from the experience and you probably did too. Sometimes I write posts about similar genres, like cyberpunk and dieselpunk. Occasionally, I'm going to post some details about these genres. You'll be surprised with the multitude of genres that end with the word punk. Some of them are legitimate genres that have been around for several years. Others are a lot more sketchy. Some genres are newer and people haven't seen a significant amount of work yet. For example, solarpunk is a pretty new genre and it focuses on alternative energy sources that won't pollute our environment. It's moving away from diesel fuel, coal, radiation, and other harmful resources. I believe this genre might become more prevalent over time because a lot of people are worried about climate change. Our society is already experimenting with solar power and other energy sources anyway. So, watch out for more posts about the various punk genres. I'm going to scale down the number of events next year. The past couple of years were packed with Comic Cons, steampunk festivals, and other events. They're really fun, but outings and tickets are pricy. I'm also getting a little bit burned out. So, I'll probably attend around four events in 2019. However, this plan is subject to change. I'm still going to post all of my photos from any upcoming events. WonderCon is probably going to be my first event in 2019. Periodically, I give steampunk presentations at libraries. I'm undecided on that part. Perhaps, I'll add one or two of those workshops for next year. Don't be shy to reach out. If you want me to give a workshop at a local library, fill out the details in the Contact section and I'll get back to you. You're probably going to see some posts about the post-apocalyptic genre because it's also a major part of my book series. For those of you who are interested in writing apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, check back frequently. I'm planning to create a series of posts about writing post-apocalyptic fiction. My series about writing steampunk fiction is almost complete, so the post-apocalyptic genre is the next logical step. I'll write about other post-apocalyptic topics as well. For quite a while, it was a hugely popular genre. Now it seems to be going by the wayside. Mortal Engines and The Darkest Minds had pitiful results at the box office. I'll do some research and figure out what's going on with the genre. Maybe people are getting tired of it. It's probably going to be a while before I publish more books. I want to take a break, save some money, build ideas, and figure out my next round of stories. My steampunk universe and characters can have many more tales, but I want everything to be done at the right time. As an indie author, I have the luxury of writing at my own pace. I'll do some creative writing and branch out from there. You'll probably see a few posts about self-publishing. There are many people who want to publish stories, but where does an author begin his or her journey? It's not a simple answer and I might post a few suggestions. Unfortunately, I don't have an indefinite amount of steampunk posts. I can only find a certain number of steampunk topics each year. Some bloggers write about steampunk all year round. I totally salute the most devoted steampunk bloggers who are providing a huge wealth of steampunk knowledge to the world. Their resources are much appreciated. But I have to find other topics to discuss sometimes. I'm a huge geek and proud of it. Other topics in pop culture are appealing to me, such as cinema, gaming, television shows, etc. I posted a lot of movie reviews during the past couple of years and the same will be true for 2019. Although I don't think 2019 will be quite so stuffed. For some reason, there was a huge plethora of blockbusters during 2018 and a lot of those releases were box office flops. Maybe 2019 will have more balance in the film industry. I'm probably going to post a lot more video game reviews. Believe it or not, there are sixty games on my shelf and I haven't played all of them yet. I should take advantage of my spoils and write about them. You might also hear about some video game gossip on my blog. Rumor has it, we might see a new generation of Xbox and PlayStation systems in 2020. I'm not sure if that will happen, but we'll see. There will be a lot of changes to the gaming industry when new systems are released and it will directly affect gamers like me. You guys are probably ready to see something different. I'm thinking about experimenting with other topics. 2018 was my first experience with streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Video. I'm completely hooked! Streaming is so much better than cable or satellite. Television is changing a lot too. Disney bought 20th Century Fox and they're releasing a streaming service next year. I might begin a series of posts about binge worthy television shows. Sometimes people just want to relax and watch a good tv show. I've watched some great shows and quite a few clunkers as well. Be prepared to see posts about streaming and the television industry. How many of you guys love sports? Ironically, I probably watch several sports games per week. Maybe I should write about it sometimes. I'm definitely not an expert about sports, but it's interesting to me. My favorite sports are college and NFL football, NBA basketball, and NHL hockey. Lately, I've been watching MMA fighting, specifically the UFC. Recently, I've been watching rugby too. I'm still learning how rugby works, but it's pretty cool. Is WWE wrestling a sport? I think it's more like a soap opera with athletes. That's another thing I added to my interests in 2018. I've been watching a lot of professional wrestling. It's such a guilty pleasure. Maybe I'll find some sports topics once in while. We'll see how it goes. I'm feeling adventurous. You might see other topics on my blog, including superheroes, Star Wars, and other popular trends. Superheroes are all the rage and I should take advantage of the opportunity. Maybe I'll even write a post about those giant monsters. There's a Godzilla movie coming out next year and I'm sure it'll be good. Be prepared to see anything and everything on my blog. There's never a dull moment in my crazy universe. Next week, I'm going to post my final movie reviews for 2018 releases, including Mortal Engines, Bumblebee, and Aquaman. The following week will include my complete list of films I reviewed in 2018, ranked from my least favorite to absolute favorite. What movies did I love the most from this year? You'll have to read my post to find out. ;) That's a wrap for 2018! I'm encouraging you guys to leave comments, questions, and suggestions. If you're curious about a specific blog topic for next year, let me know. I'm really looking forward to 2019. Happy New Year and I'll see you next week.
