Welcome back! Super Bowl LIV just wrapped up and it was a pretty exciting game. I'll give you my thoughts about the Super Bowl and surprises from the playoffs. After all, the Super Bowl only happens once a year. I think it's worth discussing.
Let's begin with my thoughts about the 2020 playoffs. It went very differently than I imagined. Even the teams in the playoff picture weren't entirely what I predicated. I thought the Colts might have a slightly better season than the Titans and go to the playoffs, but that's didn't happen. Also, I figured the Cowboys would attend the playoffs because their division was lousy, but the Eagles snatched that spot instead. Truthfully, I'm glad the Cowboys didn't go to the playoffs this year. They're a very mediocre team with an overrated quarterback. The Cowboys need to get a lot better. I don't think the Eagles are very good either, but they probably deserved a playoff spot more than the Cowboys this year. Here were my big surprises in the playoff picture. The Titans went to the playoffs and eliminated both the Patriots and Ravens. That was the biggest shocker of the season. The Patriots have multiple Super Bowl wins under their quarterback, Tom Brady. For that matter, many people thought the Ravens had the best chance of the going to the Super Bowl and winning. But they were eliminated by the Titans of all teams! Good for them. A good underdog story is always entertaining. The Titans were just a scrappy team who wanted to win really badly. Ultimately, they couldn't beat the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs is probably the best quarterback who's currently playing in the NFL and it's hard to beat that kind of talent. That's something the Titans need to keep in mind for next season. They have a pretty good defense and offensive line, but the Titans really need a strong quarterback. If possible, they should choose a quarterback in the upcoming draft. A couple more eliminations surprised me. I didn't think the Saints would get eliminated in the Wild Card round against the Vikings. Honestly, I'm not remarkably impressed with the Vikings. They definitely seemed like a Wild Card team rather than a real Super Bowl contender. Maybe the Saints received too much hype. Last season, a lot of people thought they were robbed from going to the Super Bowl. This season, is seemed like they were a heavy Super Bowl favorite again. I don't get it. The Saints are just getting too old and now it shows. It's almost time for their quarterback, Drew Brees, to retire. He's a really good quarterback, but I doubt the Saints will go back to the Super Bowl again until they do significant rebuilding. I assumed the Bills would eliminate the Texans because they had a much stronger record, but that didn't work out either. That wasn't a gigantic upset, but I was a little bit surprised. The Texans squeezed in the playoffs by a hair. Usually, those teams get eliminated right away. But anything is possible in the NFL playoffs. I see major upsets almost every season. The 49ers went to the Super Bowl and they were definitely one of the favorites. I'm actually a big 49ers fan. We didn't have a football team in Los Angeles for a really long time, so I used to root for the 49ers every season. But I was curious if they were going to play against the Packers or Seahawks in the Conference Championships. The Seahawks seemed like a very talented team and the Packers had many veteran players. I thought it could go either way, but the Packers defeated the Seahawks. In fact, the Seahawks were behind during the entire game and that surprised me. They tried to catch up in the fourth quarter, but it's too late at that point. In the end, the more experienced team won. However, the 49ers didn't have any trouble beating the Packers in the Conference Championships. I figured it would happen. The 49ers had a much better season overall and they have a very well balanced team. So, the Chiefs played against the 49ers in the Super Bowl. By the way, I was delighted to see the Chiefs in this game because Mahomes absolutely deserved an opportunity. Overall, I found this game quite entertaining. The entire game went in the 49ers favor until the fourth quarter. Suddenly, the Chiefs rallied together and scored twenty-one points late in the game. That's nuts! The ultimate score was in the vicinity of what I expected, but the momentum changed a lot. I thought the Chiefs would play better in the first half, but it doesn't really matter because they won in the end. Super Bowl LIV ended with a final score of thirty-one to twenty. Mahomes received his first Super Bowl win and he was the game's MVP. It was also nice to see their head coach, Andy Reid, achieve his first Super Bowl Championship. Reid was a very accomplished football coach, but the Super Bowl always eluded him until today. Why did the Chiefs beat the 49ers? Basically, the Chiefs played better offensively when it mattered the most. They fell behind and caught up. Jimmy Garoppolo on the 49ers is a very good quarterback as well, but Mahomes is more talented and a better improviser. I'm glad Super Bowl LIV was a fun and unpredictable experience. It was much better than last year's one sided Super Bowl. What did you think about Super Bowl LIV? Did you root for a particular team? Leave a comment if you wish. Thanks a lot for checking out my sports coverage. I'll be back next week with a post about Birds of Prey. The film's marketing hasn't been good, but the social media reactions were quite positive. Let's see how it goes. Take care and have a good week.
